Kutya Mukama Nursery and Primary School began its journey in 1885, opening its doors with nursery and primary one classes. The school initially offered these foundational levels of education.
Expansion and Challenges
The school saw its first expansion in 2001, welcoming students to the newly added primary two class. Shortly after, in 2015, primary three was introduced, catering to the growing educational needs of the community.
However, further expansion faced challenges due to limited resources. The school needed funds to construct new facilities to accommodate additional classes and hire qualified teachers as mandated by the Ministry of Education and Sports.
Despite these hurdles, the school community's unwavering demand for more classes propelled the addition of primary four in 2018. This was followed by the introduction of primary five in 2019. The vision was to upgrade the school to offer the full range of primary education, culminating in the candidate class.
Financial Constraints and the Pandemic's Impact
Unfortunately, financial limitations prevented the school from fully implementing its vision. The school could not afford to pay the required number of well-trained teachers as mandated by the Ministry. The COVID-19 pandemic further exacerbated the situation. In 2020, many qualified teachers left due to financial constraints, and the school lacked the facilities to offer online classes during the country lockdown.
Recent Progress and a Bright Future
Kutya Mukama remained at the primary five level until 2022. However, significant progress has been made recently. In 2022, primary six was introduced, followed by primary seven in 2023. This year, the school proudly witnessed its first nine pioneer candidates sit for their national exams and pass with flying colors.
